Logan family correspondence, 1870-1888.

Letters and copies of letters written between Hill Logan and his wife, their son Ernest A., and daughter Frank, and extended family and friends. Hill Logan writes to his wife in St. Louis, Missouri, from Camp Carling in Wyoming Territory in 1870 Jan-Mar, describing his life in the Army, weather, a fire in Cheyenne, and the sale of agates. In an ALS from Cheyenne, dated 1870 Dec 11, James Timmons provides Hill Logan with information about prospects for work in Cheyenne, as Logan apparently left Wyoming earlier in the year. In letters from Cheyenne to his cousin Eddie and "George," dated 1873-1874, young Ernest describes his pony, his father's Wyoming land claim, and livestock. Ernest's correspondence with his mother (who moved to Wyoming and apparently was widowed before 1881) dates from 1881 to 1886, and describes Ernest's work as a cowboy in Wyoming and his financial support of his mother. In letters dating from 1882-1884 to Ernest, Mrs. Logan discusses mutual friends and her interest in moving into Cheyenne from her country home. Frank's letters date from 1879 and describe her work as a school teacher in Sherman, Wyoming, social activities, and mutual friends. A title to a cow and calf purchased by Ernest in 1888 at Cheyenne, and a cabinet photograph of an unidentified man accompany the letters.
